Box Score TRINIDAD, Colo. - Rallying from a two sets to zero deficit, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team found a way to win a five-set match on the road over Trinidad State Junior College to secure their first winning season since the 2010 season. Scores of the match were 23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, and 15-6.
DC3 is now 19-12 on the year and has five more games yet to play to eclipse the 20-win total on the year.
"I think the long road trip and altitude affected us early on" said head volleyball coach
Kamri Nehls in a postgame interview. "We were able to adjust and push through to finish the match with a victory."
On a record-setting night, freshman
Raquel Valdez finished with four total blocks (one solo, three assisted) to break the single-season and career-blocks records at DC3 with 137 eclipsing Melissa VanDyke who had 136 from 1996-1997. In addition to setting the single-season and career blocks records, Valdez is currently leading the NJCAA with 62 solo blocks and ranks third nationally in total blocks. Sophomore
Sada Smith carried the team with a double-double, finishing with 21 kills and 17 digs while
Tenille Tholen had 14 digs of her own.
Dodge City will return to their brand-new Student Activities Center to take on Hutchinson Community College on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The night is designated as "Pink Night" to honor those currently or have battled cancer. The Conquistadors will wear their pink jerseys and encourage all fans to wear pink as well.
