Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City Community College volleyball team appeared prime for a comeback when it snagged game three after dropping the first two, but fell short as the Conquistadors lost to Barton Community College 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 20-25, 25-4) Thursday at the DC3 Gym.
After DC3 (2-9 overall, 0-2 KJCCC) lost a heartbreaker in the first set 25-20 (DC3 was up 17-11) and dropped the second set by the same score, the Conquistadors battled back and took the third set 25-20. A key for DC3 in the set was limiting its errors, committing just two while racking up nine kills (on the other side, Barton committed 12 errors to go with its 12 kills in the third set).
However, Barton (5-3, 2-0) started the fourth set hot and never cooled down – collecting 10 kills without committing an error – and put the match away with the 25-4 fourth-set victory.
Sada Smith paced DC3 with nine kills while
Mariah Watkins had six.
Katie Garcia led the Conquistadors with 20 digs while Smith added 18.
Casey Cox added a team-high 15 assists.
Emily Deterding had a game-high 15 kills for Barton.
