Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas: Dodge City volleyball had a hard day on the court tonight, falling in three sets to fellow Jayhawk Conference opponents Cloud County. The loss dropped the Conquistador record to 4-7 overall, 0-2 in the KJCCC.
Both sides were close in the first set, with the final decision falling 25-20 to the opposition. Both sides had nine kills with CCCC posting 28 attempts and six attack errors and DC3 posting 26 attempts and seven attack errors in the first set alone.
The defensive side was were the opposition gained their ground with Cloud County posting two block assists and one block error and the home team only putting up four block errors.
The second set proved to be very similar for the Conquistadors with DC3 falling 25-20 yet again. Again, both sides were posted very similar stats with each side having 10 kills in the second set.
Cloud posted 57 attack attempts and seven errors while Dodge put up 52 attack attempts and eight errors. As a team in the second set, the Conqs posted six blocks while the opposition only posted four with three block errors. Serving was the Achilles' heel in this set as the ThunderBirds posted three serve aces to add to their four from the first half.
The third set was very much the deciding factor in the loss with the opposition out-attacking the home team. The Conqs only earned four kills in 29 total attacks while erring four times in the third set while the T-Birds put up 19 kills on 39 attempts with four errors themselves.
Cloud County posted 18 digs in the third set against DC3 which attributed to the low kill output.
On the day, the Conqs posted 23 total kills in 107 attack attempts, 50 digs, six assisted blocks and two aces.
Freshman
Hailee Hoskinson led the Conqs with eight kills on the day. She attempts 18 and also posted one assisted block.
Sophomores
Emily Slattery and
Brandi Fairbank were next in line with five kills in the game. Slattery attempted 24 and put up three assisted blocks and three digs while Fairbank with five-for-10 for a .300 attack percentage.
Sophomore
Alexis Sanchez led DC3 with 17 assists and freshman libero Sam Endress led the team with 15 digs.
The Conqs will return home Friday, September 5 to take on Hesston College JV at 5:30 p.m. in the DC3 Gymnasium.
