2nd Year as Head Football Coach

Hometown: Lucas, Texas
College: Texas A&M University-Commerce

Ryan Lusby is in his second season as head coach at Dodge City for the football team taking over in June of 2024. He is the 24th Head Football coach in school history.

The 2024 season was year one under Coach Lusby as he inherited a team coming off a winning season but took over just two months before the start of the season and led the team to a 6-4 record and #15 ranking nationally at the end of the season. The Conquistadors finished fourth in the KJCCC after being picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll. Under Lusby seven Conqs earned All-Conference KJCCC honors for the 2024 season, while the Conquistadors also had an NJCAA All-American in Sam Brooks for the 2024 season. With a winning record in his first season he is only the sixth coach in school history to open his coaching career at Dodge City to record a winning record in year one; he also is one of only nine coaches in school history to win their coaching debut as Conqs beat Tyler 20-17.

Lusby came to Dodge City after serving as the Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach at the University of Texas-Permian Basin during the 2023 season. Helped the team to a 10-2 record overall and 8-0 in Lone Star Conference play winning the conference for the first in program history. The season was the first winning season in program history as he led the Falcon’s offense to lead the LSC in scoring at 42.4 points per game and total offense with 475.8 yards per game. The team ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II in scoring and sixth in total offense. He coached a quarterback who earned LSC Offensive Player of the Year and a wide receiver who was selected as LSC Wide Receiver of the Year. He coached 11 LSC All-Conference honorees on offense along with a NCAA DII honorable mention All-American.

Before UTPB, Lusby served as the Offensive Coordinator at the University of Arkansas-Monticello where he coached a three-time NCAA DII All-American, a conference Freshman of the Year, and seven All-conference honorees. He steadily improved the offensive scoring average over three seasons and averaged 360+ yards of total offense per game in each season. Prior to making his way to Monticello, he worked as the Offensive Coordinator at Coffeyville Community College for one season where he mentored seven All-KJCCC conference honorees.

He started his coaching career at his alma mater the Texas A&M University-Commerce where he coached wide receivers for two seasons. He had four All-Conference wideouts at Commerce, including a two-time LSC Wide Receiver of the Year while helping the program win the Lone Star Conference in 2014. During his time at TAMUC, the Lions were 16-8 and led the nation in points per game at 54.1 in 2014, while he also coached three 1,000-yard receivers during his coaching stint at TAMUC. After his time at Commerce, he served as Quarterbacks coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Henderson State University from 2015-17. During his time with Reddies, the team was 25-10, while they made an NCAA DII Sweet 16 appearance in 2015 and won a Great American Conference championship. He coached three All-Conference selections at Henderson State.

His playing career saw him at quarterback a position that he led his high school – Lovejoy to a state semifinalist finish and he would go on to play in college at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Lusby earned his bachelor’s in education and his master’s degree in educational administration both from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

He has two sons, Peyton, and Drew.
