Chris Laymon is in his first season as assistant men’s basketball coach at Dodge City. He comes to Dodge City after working at the prep academy level as a coach.
Laymon served as an assistant coach for Prolific Prep during the 2024-25 season, helping the program win the Grind Session Championship and made the Chipotle Nationals Final Four, he was also an assistant for Prolific Prep for the 2021-22 season. For the 2023-24 season, he was a player development coach for Lace’Em Up Basketball. In 2022-23, Laymon was a graduate assistant for Brigham Young University, helping the Cougars to a 23-11 record and 10-8 mark in the Big 12 with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He started his coaching career in the AAU scene, serving as a coach for the D1 Minnesota 15U team who participated in the 3SSB (Adidas 3Stripes Select Basketball circuit).
The Minnesota native played college basketball, starting off at St. Cloud Tech Community College, playing two seasons at the NJCAA level and then transferring to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, playing two seasons. He helped UWRF to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and WIAC Tournament titles, while his senior year saw the team finish at the WIAC Tournament runner-up. He played in 46 career games at UWRF. During his sophomore season at St. Cloud Tech, he averaged 12.7 points per game, playing in 25 games and adding 4.5 rebounds per game.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
