Erica Nelson spent one season as assistant coach for Dodge City CC women’s basketball. 
 
Nelson comes to Dodge City after four years another KJCCC institution working as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Johnson County Community College. During her four years on staff, she helped the Cavaliers win 89% of their games (111-14), finishing each season ranked in the final NJCAA Division II polls. The team finished a NJCAA DII National runner-up during the 2020-21 season, along with a fifth-place finish in NJCAA DII in 2021-22 season. Program won Region VI title in 2021-22 and runner-up in 2019-20 and 2020-21 during her time with the program, while also capturing multiple KJCCC DII titles. Program produced three NJCAA All-Americans, three WBCA All-Americans, NJCAA DII National Player of the Year, 12 All-Region VI DII honorees, and 15 All-KJCCC DII selections during her four years on staff. 
 
As a player Nelson suited up for the Johnson County Cavaliers for her first two years in college (2014-16) before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University where she finished her collegiate basketball career. 
 
While at Johnson County she helped the team in her freshman campaign to a 34-2 record and a NJCAA DII National Championship, while her sophomore year the team went 31-1 and finished as Region VI runner-up. She helped the Cavaliers win a pair of KJCCC DII titles and top five rankings each season and her 828 points in two seasons ranks 14thin school history, while she also ranks fourth all-time in assists. Her sophomore campaign saw her lead the team in scoring (16.6 ppg), three-pointers (80), free throws (108), assists (150), and steals (46) helping her earn All-KJCCC honors, All-Region VI honors, first team NJCAA DII All-American and WBCA All-American honors. 
 
In her two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast, she would finish her career ranked in programs Top 10 in points per game (8.8), free throw percentage (.718), assists (198), assists pe game (3), and blocks (24) in the Division I era. She tallied 582 total points in two seasons with FGCU and helped the team earn NCAA tournament bids in 2017 and 2018 as automatic qualifier out of the Atlantic Sun.
