Mike Viramontez enters his third year leading the Dodge City CC softball program as head coach. 

Year two under Coach Viramontez the Conquistadors saw a 14-win improvement from 2024 his first season as the team finished 27-28 and 18-14 in KJCCC action. The Conqs 27 wins were the most since 2005 season and the winning KJCCC record was the first conference winning record since the 2019 season. In his first season leading the Conqs the team posted a 13-33 record and 11-21 in KJCCC play. The Conqs went 2-2 in the Region 6 Tournament to finish fourth in the region in 2024. Five Conqs have earned KJCCC All-Conference honors in his two seasons leading the program.

The Kansas native came to Dodge City after most recently working at Oklahoma State University where he was working as a graduate assistant for the 2023 season with the OSU Cowgirls softball program under OSU Head Coach, Kenny Gajewski. Viramontez also worked as a volunteer assistant coach at OSU from 2015-2017. In 2016 and 2017 he was part of the OSU teams that made the postseason, and both finished as regional runner-ups and helped coach several All-Americans, All-Region, and All-Big 12 players along with being part of teams that broke several school records. In the 2023 season, he was part of the OSU team that posted a 47-16 record that won Regional and Super Regional titles, qualifying for the Women’s College World Series where they finished fifth. 

In between his two stints on the Cowgirls coaching staff, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of North Texas from 2018-2021 (August). While at North Texas the Mean Green won the Conference USA regular season title in 2019 and 2021, along with setting the best record in school history (38-12 in 2021). While in 2020 he was also part of the inaugural season of the Athletes Unlimited League serving as one of the league's facilitators helping lead the league and oversee the competition.

His first collegiate head coaching position came at the NCAA Division II level at Newman University in Wichita. After working as an assistant coach (2013-14) for the Newman Jets he took over the program during 2014-15 and led them to 17 wins what was the best season in school history in DII at the time, coaching a pair of All-Heartland Conference honorees, and led the team to their first conference tournament appearance since 2011. 

His coaching career also includes being assistant coach for the Wichita Mustangs Academy (2013), assistant coach at Southern Arkansas University (2012-13), general manager and head instructor at Balls N’ Strikes Hitting facility, assistant baseball coach at Bishop Carroll high school, and assistant/head coach at Andale high school. As head coach at Andale in 2011 he led the team to a 20-4 record, while he was assistant coach for the 2008 state runner-up team at Andale. While at Bishop Carroll he helped the team to a 24-3 record and Class 5A State title as an assistant coach. 

Viramontez played one season of college baseball at Dodge City Community College in 2005 eventually transferring to Newman and finishing college at Fort Hays State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in human health promotion.
