Janice Fiene spent two seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for the Dodge City softball program.
Fiene worked for the Dodge City school district as a special education teacher and was previously a head softball coach at the college level at Bethany College and Newman University.
She was head coach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas from 2002-2015 and during that time she amassed 364 victories for the Swedes softball program. She coached the Swedes to nine 25+ win seasons, three KCAC Championships, two KCAC Tournament Championships, three NAIA Regional appearances, and two NAIA National Tournament appearances including the first national appearance in school history in 2012. During her tenure at Bethany, she coached 110 All-KCAC players and 38 NAIA All-School athletes, while also earning several awards including 2011 and 2012 KCAC Coach of the Year, 2010-11 Coach of Character award, and 2013 Bethany College Alumni Coach of the Year. After her time at Bethany, Fiene served as the head coach at Newman from 2015-2019 where she coached eight All-Heartland players. In her coaching career, she totaled 428 total career wins.
Before coaching at Bethany, Fiene was a two-sport athlete with the Swedes as she played softball and basketball from 1997-2001. She earned All-KCAC honors as a softball player twice, while she also helped the softball and basketball teams win the KCAC title each in 1999. Fiene was part of 1998 and 1999 NAIA basketball national tournament appearances for the Swedes including a run to the sweet-sixteen in 1999. In 2023 she was inducted into the Bethany College Athletic Hall of Honor.
Fiene earned her bachelor’s degree (biology) from Bethany College in 2001. She also earned a master’s in education from Newman University in 2019 and a master’s in special education from Fort Hays State University in 2022.
