Jacob Perkey is in his third year with the Dodge City rodeo program; started June of 2023 as assistant rodeo coach and took over as head coach in December of 2024.
Year two with the program he took over as head coach and guided the Conquistadors to a 13th and 15th place finish for the men and women, respectively overall in the Central Plains District. He coached a pair of College National Finals Rodeo qualifiers in bull riding as Kyle Cheney and Tavi Ford finished in the top three in the region to qualify for the CNFR. The Conqs had four bull riders finish in the Top 15 in bull riding.
During his first season on staff at Dodge City (2023-24) he coached a CNFR qualifier as Kyle Cheney finished third in Central Region standings in bull riding to qualify for CNFR in Casper, Wyoming. Cheney and his teammate, Damien Wood each won a bull riding competition during the 2023-24 regular season. He helped guide the men's rodeo team to a 10th place finish in the Central Region for the year with and the women's team to a 13th place finish in the region, with four individual men being ranked in events in Top 15 in region.
Two years prior to coming to Dodge City, Perkey has worked as a graduate assistant at Tarleton State with the rodeo program. During his time as a graduate assistant, he gained experience in several different facets including marketing and coaching as he helped with running daily practices, toured prospective students, pursued team sponsors, and assisted with coaching while at competitions.
The Burleson, Texas native competed in the Southwest Region while at Tarleton State and served on the Tarleton Rodeo Leadership Council for two years, while also being the Team Roping Director for the Southwest Region for three years. He also academically earned a spot on the Dean’s or President’s list several times while a student-athlete.
