Kody Howard joined the Dodge City staff as an assistant coach in June 2020 coaching one season for the Dodge City CC men's basketball team during the 2020-21 season. He came to Dodge City following the past six seasons as an AAU and high school coach at multiple stops throughout West Tennessee.
Prior to coming to Dodge City, Howard spent the 2019-2020 season as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Chester County High School in Henderson, Tennessee. From 2017-2019 Howard served as an assistant under his former high school coach, Blaine Mahaffey, at his alma mater Dyersburg High School, in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
In the 2018-2019 season, he also handled the middle school coaching duties, leading Dyersburg to a North West Tennessee Tournament Championship, a 17-3 overall record, as well as being named the North West Tennessee Middle School Coach of the Year. During the 2017-2018 season, Howard helped lead Dyersburg High School to a 23-5 (10-0) overall record, and a second consecutive undefeated District 13AA Regular Season Championship, which marked a two-year, 49-8 (20-0) combined record.
Prior to Dyersburg, Howard served two seasons as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Lake County High School in Tiptonville, Tennessee. In May 2015, five months after his college graduation, Howard was hired by Lake County High School at the age of 22 becoming the youngest head basketball coach in the history of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the time.
From 2014-2018 Howard was the program director for the Mid-South Kings, an Adidas Gauntlet AAU program, that produced multiple two-year and four-year collegiate athletes throughout the Southeast and Midwest. During that time, he also served as the head coach for the 17u Kings team each season.
A native of Dyersburg, Tennessee, Howard received his degree in Business Education with a minor in Secondary Education from Middle Tennessee State University in December of 2014.
