College: Oklahoma Panhandle State University

Gurss the Leavenworth, Kansas native comes to Dodge City after working at the high school level for the past few years in coaching most recently serving as the head coach at Horton high school in northeast Kansas. Prior to taking over at Horton, he worked as an assistant coach at Leavenworth high school in Kansas from 2016-2020 working on both sides of the ball. 

He got his coaching start in 2011 at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas where he was the defensive ends coach and then later made the move to Oklahoma Panhandle State University working as tight ends/runningbacks coach from 2012-2013. In 2014 he moved to Idaho and was an assistant coach at Marsh Valley high school. 

Gurss also played college football suiting up for Dakota State University.
