Eli Egger spent five years as assistant coach for Dodge City baseball; was hired in June of 2019.
His first season at Dodge City was cut short due to CoVID but he helped guide the Conquistadors to a 21-30 record in 2021 and a 28-27 mark in 2022 and a sixth place finish in the KJCCC West Division. The 2023 season saw the Conqs post a 30-29 record going 18-14 in KJCCC West to finish fifth in the conference, while in 2024 the team posted the most wins in a season and KJCCC wins in a season since 2017 going 38-23 and finishing third in the KJCCC West. The Conqs won a first round playoff series during the 2024 season marking the first time since 2017 to accomplish that feat. He's coached up multiple All-Region and All-Conference KJCCC players in his time at Dodge City.
Egger came to Dodge City after three years as an assistant coach at Emporia State University. In Egger’s three seasons at Emporia State, the Hornets qualified for the NCAA tournament in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Emporia State won the 2017 MIAA regular season title. They also were the hosts of 2017 central regional. In Egger’s three seasons as an assistant at Emporia State, the Hornets had an overall record of 103-59.
In 2019, Egger took over as the full-time pitching coach after assisting with the pitching for the prior two seasons. In 2018, Egger coached 3 All-MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association) pitchers, lowered the Hornets overall ERA from 4.71 to 4.61, while reducing the conference ERA from 5.12 to 4.22.
Prior to Emporia State, Egger served as the pitching coach for Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas in 2016. Under Egger’s coaching, Benedictine’s pitching staff lowered their team ERA, decreased their walk totals from the prior year, and increased their overall win total from the previous season.
Egger was a member of the pitching staff at both Benedictine College and Kansas City Kansas Community College. While at Benedictine, he was a member of the Heart of America All-Tournament team in 2015.
Egger obtained his Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Emporia State University. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Benedictine College and an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Eli is married to the former Sara Slater of Lansing, KS. The couple has a daughter, Sage.
