Born in October, 1939, Richard (Dick) Dean Masters came to Dodge City Junior College in 1958 from Hays, Kansas. He played football for the Conquistadors from 1958 to 1960. During that time, he was named All-Conference runningback in 1959 and All-American Wigwam Wiseman runningback in 1959. Upon graduation, Dick transferred to Kansas State University, playing football for the Wildcats from 1960-61. He completed his studies at Kansas State University in 1962.Â
Masters returned to Dodge City in 1962, working at Dodge City High School and coaching football under Bob Gerard and J.C. Riekenberg (1970 4A State Champions) before becoming the head coach of the Demons in 1972. He left a massive legacy there, becoming the winningest coach in DCHS history (173-63 and PCT of 750) as head coach of the Demon football team from 1972-95.Â
Coach remained at Dodge City High School until 2001, his career spanning 39 years with the Demons. He married former Conquistador, Judy Grose in January, 1962.Â
