A native of Hutchinson, Kansas, Tyler Cummins came to Dodge City Community College in 2002. He graduated in 2004, earning his Associate of Arts degree. Tyler then transferred to Kansas State University, majoring in Social Science and graduating in 2006. From February, 2017 to October, 2017 Tyler was the Director of Member Services for the Kansas Golf Association in the Lawrence, Kansas area. His main responsibilities included the administration of the Kansas Junior Golf program, working with the KGA member golf clubs, and administering course rating and handicap services. He then moved on to Newcomer Funeral Service Group in 2017 in Human Resources and Employee Development as well as becoming the Benefits Administrator. 

Mr. Cummins was a two-time NJCAA All-American golfer for the Conquistadors in 2003 and in 2004, helping DC3 to back-to-back KJCCC Championships. In 2003 he helped the Conqs earn a ninth place finish at NJCAA Nationals and placed fifth individually with a 290 four-round score, finishing just one-stroke off second place. The Conqs would win the KJCCC title in 2003 and he was first-team All-KJCCC. The 2004 in Dodge City Cummins posted a ninth place finish at NJCAA Nationals shooting a 291 four-round score only three-strokes off of top five. The Conqs won the KJCCC title and he won the indivdual KJCCC title in 2004 and earned first-team All-KJCCC honors. 

Cummins went on to play on the Wildcat golf team at Kansas State University. In August, 2004, he represented KSU at the 10th annual World University Games in Korat, Thailand. The DC3 transfer fired an even par 288, seven strokes behind tournament champion Darren Crowe of Ireland. Cummins was the top finisher on the United States squad, which was comprised of golfers from NJCAA and NAIA schools. He led the United States to a third-place behind South Africa and Japan. In 2006, Mr. Cummins was named the KGA Player of the Year after taking home two tournament titles in the year, winning the Kansas Public Links Championship, carding a two-round score of nine-under par 133 (the lowest winning score in Public Links history at the time), as well as the Father/Son Championship with his father, Ross Cummins. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the Kansas Amateur, as well as the Fourball Championship.Â
