Dodge City and Dodge City Community College are instrumental parts of Galen Frick's life. In 1963, he started his connection to Dodge City by leading the Durham Kansas Hornets to the Class BB High School State Championship, which was held in Dodge City, his senior year.

Following the State Championship, Frick was recruited by Coach Chuck Brehm to play the 1963-64 season at DC3. He started on the 1964 National Championship team that defeated Casper, Wyoming 73-68 in the title game. Frick, a 6'4 forward, in the title game kept the Conqs in the game by scoring 16 consecutive points in six and a half minutes to build a 13-point lead. He led the team with 24 points and 11 rebounds. The team finished with a 29-2 record. Frick, along with teammates Carl Head and Reggie Greene were named to the Region VI All-Star Basketball team. Frick, Head and Bob Pipkin were also named to the Western Division of the KJCCC All-Star team.

Frick went on to play basketball at Kansas State University for two seasons (1965-67) and earned his bachelor's degree in animal science in 1968. He played two years for "Hall of Fame" Coach Tex Winter. Frick had remarkable teammates who bought into Coach Winter's Triple Post Offense. At Kansas State, he started in his senior year, and averaged 6.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. During his time at Kansas State, he earned the Porky Morgan "Most Inspirational Player" award, and met his future wife, Doris Becker, at Camp Audobon - a Coach Tex Winter's boys' basketball camp in Ward, Colorado where he was a counselor.

Frick's road to fulfilling his basketball dreams started in Durham, took him to DC3, and culminated at Kansas State University. He then returned to Dodge City as Ford County Kansas Assistant County Extension Agriculture Agent and County 4-H Agent from 1968 to 1971. In 1971, he became the livestock advisor for Dodge City Co-Op/Pride-Ag Resources and worked there 42 1/2 years, until retiring in 2013. Frick and his wife, Doris continue to live in Dodge City. Their family includes Brian and Kevin (Rachal) and grandsons, Ian and Nathan.Â
