Emma Filiaga
Volleyball
Induction Year: 2018
Hailing from Pocatello, Idaho, Emma Filiaga came to Dodge City Community College in 2009 under coach, Shaun Pohlman. Her freshman year was a tough one, needing foundation work that she didn't receive prior to coming to DC3. She put together a solid freshman year she had only 170 kills, 39 blocks, and a hitting percentage of .230, while only reaching double-digit kills eight times.Â
Through hard work and dedication to Coach Pohlman, Filiaga's sophomore year resulted in her becoming the team leader on the court in 2010. Filiaga led the team in kills with 419, while also recording 68 blocks, and a hitting percentage of .302 and reached double-digit kills 22 times. As a result of her leadership, Filiaga was named the 2010 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division I Most Valuable Player after leading the Conquistadors to a 25-9 record and 11-3 in the Jayhawk West Division. It was Dodge City's best record since 2004 season. She was also named first-team KJCCC West Division and honorable mention NJCAA All-American. Filiaga was the first Conquistador player since 2003 to earn Division I All-American honors.Â
In 2011, Filiaga transferred to Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota to play volleyball.Â
