Coming from Wichita South High School, Eddie Smith arrived at Dodge City Community College in 1981. After completing his studies at DC3, Eddie transferred to Arizona University. Mr. Smith earned his education degree and then completed his Masters in Elementary Education in 1987. He has been an educator, including grade level chairperson, athletic director, and administration at the middle and high school levels in both the public and private school sectors. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his work on The Cornerstone of Arizona Basketball: The Eddie Smith Story. He is also listed at #83 in the book 100 Things Arizona Fans Should Know & Do Before they Die by Steve Rivera and Anthony Gimino. 

His first year at DC3, Eddie received NJCAA Region VI All-American honorable mention honors. He was the leading scorer with 20 plus points per game and was the leading rebounder. During his second season in 1982-83, Eddie notched the same accolades and was awarded the NJCAA Region VI All-American first team honors. He was named to the All-Star West team and was teh 1983 MVP. Mr. Smith's first year at Arizona earned him honorable mention All-PAC 10 honors and he was the second leading scorer and top rebounder for the Wildcats. Eddie was key to the beginning of legendary coach Lute Olsen's historic coaching career at Arizona. In his second season with the Wildcats, Eddie was the leading scorer adn second in rebounding and garnered second team All-PAC 10 honors and was named the best Defensive player. He continued his playing career with International Professional Basketball teams in Madrid, Spain (1985-86) and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1988-91). 

In addition to education, Mr. Smith is a motivational speaker for marriage and biblical teachings, residing in Georgia.Â
