Charles "Chuck" Brehm

Charles "Chuck" Brehm was born December 14, 1930 in Topeka, Kansas. He graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954 (where he is listed in the 1,000 Point club for men's basketball with a career total of 1,004 points) and graduated from the University of Kansas with a Master's degree in Education. He became the basketball coach at Durham High School for 1953-54 before serving in the United States Air Force as a jet pilot from 1955-58.
From 1958-60, Coach Brehm was the basketball coach for Labette County Community High School. He came to Dodge City Community College in 1960. In 1964, the Conquistadors team won the NJCAA National basketball championship. He was also named the NJCAA Coach of the Year in the same season. While at DC3, Coach Brehm's teams had a record of 110 wins and 29 losses which ranks him fourth in wins and second in career winning percentage in the history of DC3 men's basketball. He left DC3 in 1965 to coach basketball at Fort Hays State University until 1978.
Coach Brehm left coaching in 1978 to work for Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1978-92. He then worked for the Kansas Insurance Department from 1992 until his retirement in 1996. He was inducted into the Washburn Athletics Hall of Fame in 1979-80 for his achievements as an Ichabod basketball player.
