The 1964 Men's Basketball team consisted of 12 members and were coached by fellow Dodge City Community College Hall of Famer, Chuck Brehm. The team put together a season to remember bring home DC3's first national championship in school history finishing the season 29-2 and going 4-0 at the NJCAA National Tournament. The Conquistadors at the National Tournament won the opening round 73-68 vs Southwest Baptist (MO), then topped Eastern Arizona 89-84 in the quarterfinals, in the semifinals the Conqs took down Trenton (NJ) in lopsided fashion 110-86, and capped the National Tournament with a 73-68 win over Casper (WY). 

Members of the team included: Galen Frick who went on to play basketball at Kansas State University from 1965-67 and earned his bachelor's degree in animal science in 1968. During his time in Manhattan, he earned the Porky Morgan "Most Inspirational Player" award and met his future wife, Doris Becker. He was a Ford County Kansas Assistant County Extension Agriculture Agent and and a County 4H Agent from 1968-71. In 1971, he became a livestock advisor for Dodge City Co-op/Pride Ag Resources, retiring in 2013. Frick and his wife have two sons and two grandchildren. Don Gepner, after Dodge City, joined the military, and when he returned earned his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Oklahoma University in 1974. He married Sharon Kay (Smith) Gepner in 1966 and the couple have four children. Gepner passed away March 2nd, 2016 at the age of 70. Carl Head, an NJCAA first team All-American both years at DC3, he went on to play at West Virigina where he averaged 20.6 points and nine rebounds per game and shot 52.9 percent from the field as a senior while leading the Mountaineers to a Southern Conference title and a NCAA tournament appearance. Jesse Hensel, after DC3 went on to play basketball at Kansas Wesleyan. After college, Hensel taught school for 29 years and is now retired, living in Hutchinson, Kansas. He and his wife of 46 years have two daughters. Robert Pipkin from Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, went on to play at the University of Idaho, after Dodge City, where he averaged 16.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game earning first team All-Big Sky honors. He then played professionally in Europe. Pipkin returned to the USA, earned his Master's degree in educational administration from Duquesne University, earned his doctorate at teh University of Pittsburgh. Pipkin served as an education administrator in the Pittsburgh public schools for more than 32 years and as an adjunct professor at Duquesne. He earned several honors including Talk Magazine's "50 Most Influential African Americans in Pittsburgh," YMCA's Racial Justice Award, Sewickley YMCA's "Man of the Year," was nominated for Professor of the Year by the students at Duquesne, and was one of 10 speakers for the National PTA to be invited to the White House in 2012. Pipkin is married to Yvonne and the couple have two children and four grandchildren. He currently resides in Phoenix where he is a motivational speaker and educational consultant. Bob Selby continued his education at Wichita State after his time at Dodge City along with his new wife Cora Sue Patterson. He worked for IBM in computer technical support from 1967-81. He worked for Tandem Computers for 17 years and then began work in 1998 with Mobil Oil (now Exxon Mobil). He and his wife live in Texas. Larry Soice graduated from Fort Hays State in 1967 (Bachelor's) and in 1978 (Master's). He worked as a public accountant for 40 years, retiring in 2008. He served on a number of Wichita civic and professional organizations. including the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Episocpal Social Services, WSU Foundation, and KSCPA board. Soice is married to Nicki J. Soice (Mayrath) and they have two children. Dwight Negley came to Dodge City from Durham, Kansas and according to teammates Larry Kerbs and Galen Frick, he was a great manager for the team. Known as "Nub," he passed away in 1976. Other members of the team were: Assistant Coach: Rex Trauer, Players: Roger Allen, Reggie Greene, Ron Coleman, Larry Kerbs, and Artie Hall.Â
