Through determination, to overcome deafness in one ear, his athletic ability was brought to the forefront and the eight round draft choice (191st pick) becoming one of football's greatest. Brown played for the Conquistadors from 1965-1966 and during his sophomore year earned All-KJCCC first team honors, along with NJCAA honorable mention All-American honors. During the eight years with the Redskins, his contributions as an athlete were noted by many honors he received including: he was the first halfback in the history of the NFL to rush for over 1,250 yards and was named the MVP in the NFL in 1972. He retired in 1977 from football and became a personal financial management advisor for E.F. Hutton. Throughout his tenure as a professional athlete and thereafter, Mr. Brown has been committed to helping others. His humanitarian nature committed him to a continued involvement with youth, underprivileged, handicapped, and the elderly. He is respected for many reasons, especially for his willingness and ability to inspire those who like himself have had to meet and conquer numerous obstacles.Â
