For the first time since 2023, the Dodge City men's soccer team picked up a win against the Coffeyville Red Ravens, snapping a four-game winless streak in the series.
The Conquistadors earned the 3-0 win to move to 3-2-2 on the season and open KJCCC play 1-0, marking the second time in three seasons under coach
Juan Espinal that the Conqs have won their conference opener.
It was an early start for the Conqs as they put Coffeyville on the defensive early, as
Zade Douglas fired a shot that was saved, but it found its way to
Keitu Mphomane from the foot of
Koga Katsurashima on the rebound, and the Conqs took a 1-0 lead. Mphomane rocketed the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season, giving the Conqs the 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the game. In the 27
th minute,
Flavio Fois fired a corner kick into the box, and
Taemin Son found a way to redirect the ball, and the Conqs led 2-0, carrying that lead into halftime.
After multiple strong saves in the first half by
Rensho Ishikawa he would make three more critical saves in the second half, while the Conqs added a third goal in the 62
nd minute as
Kanau Hayashi received a pass from
Towa Ochiai to score his first career goal as a Conq. The Conqs went on to keep Coffeyville off the scoreboard and earn the 3-0 victory.
The Conqs were outshot 14-11 in the matchup but scored three goals on five shots on goal in the game. Ishikawa was strong in goal, recording the 90-minute shutout and notching six saves.
Up next, the Conqs travel to Arkansas City, Kansas, to take on a strong Cowley team that is ranked #3 in the NJCAA Division I. The Conqs will take on the Tigers on Wednesday, September 16
