Dodge City baseball went on the road for some early week non-conference action and took on McPherson College JV, and were hurt by one big inning from McPherson in an 8-5 loss.
The loss drops the Conquistadors to 12-17 on the season.
The Conqs opened the day, grabbing the lead in the second inning as back-to-back singles got the offense in motion in the second, with a groundout bringing in the first run.
Angel Vazquez then drove in another run on a single, and then a wild pitch made it 3-0. An RBI single by
Hunter Morgan in the third increased the Conqs' lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the fifth, McPherson exploded for seven runs to take control, capitalizing on three hits, four walks, and a Conq error, and then tacked on another run in the fifth. The Conqs got back on the board behind an RBI single by
Ben Longoria in the sixth but were unable to score again, falling 8-5.
In the loss, Longoria led the offense, going 3-4 with an RBI, while
Will Soto was 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Morgan added a 2-4 game with a run scored, an RBI, and four stolen bases.
Lane French on the mound started the contest, going 3.2 innings, giving up three unearned runs on five walks and one hit, while striking out five.
Sam Spencer tossed two scoreless innings late in the contest.
