It didn't take long as the Dodge City women's basketball team established control early at home and cruised past Independence 88-52.
The Conquistadors with the victory improved to 24-4 on the season and 19-4 in KJCCC action.
A run to the rim by
Manuela Piljevic and
Saje Evans found her on the pass for a layup, which started the day for the Conqs, and it sparked an 11-0 start to the day for the Conqs. Over six minutes into the contest, Independence had just two points as the Conqs had firm control. Shoots continued to fall in the first quarter for the Conqs as they led 24-9 after the first 10 minutes. An Evans three-pointer put the Conqs in front by 20 at 33-13 nearly three minutes into the second quarter. A 16-0 run in the middle of the second stanza stretched the Conqs lead out, and the Conqs led 49-18 at intermission.
In the second half, the Conqs continued to work the ball around, getting contributions from all around as they cruised past Independence with an 88-52 win.
The Conqs held Independence to just 28.2% shooting and dominated the glass, out-rebounding them 53-32; the 53 rebounds are the most in a game this season by the Conqs. Offensively, the Conqs shot 45.5%, recording 23 assists on 35 made field goals with 12 three-pointers.
A 17-point performance by
Savi Mi paced the Conqs as she was 7-12 from the field, while
Jade Célérier added a double-double with 15 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Piljevic finished with 13 points, while
Saje Evans added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Mailey Cunningham chipped in 10 points, and
Jolie Mantz had nine points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
The Conqs are set to wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, March 4th, as they take on Seward County on the road.
