Dodge City baseball continued its road trip in Texas to open the 2026 season on Tuesday, playing for the third straight day and facing a ranked opponent for the second straight day, taking on #2 Blinn.
The Conquistadors suffered a tough 20-7 loss in seven innings in Brenham and fell to 1-3 on the season.
After a one-two-three inning offensively to open the game, the Conqs saw Blinn get some early offense, but the Conqs held them to just one run as Blinn left two in the bottom of the first. The Conqs got the bats rolling in the second, starting the inning with two walks, followed by an RBI single from
Nic Cipolla after
Ty Hamilton stole home for the Conqs first run of the game, and the Conqs led 2-1.
Cameron Stukenborg brought in another run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-1 lead. Blinn had an answer in the bottom of the second, belting a pair of two-run home runs, giving them a 5-3 advantage after two innings. In the third, Blinn had an offensive outburst, plating nine runs, and would add a run in the fourth and fifth innings each, along with four more in the sixth, to lead 20-3. The Conqs continued to fight, opening the seventh with a single, walk, and single to load the bases, and Hamilton blasted a grand slam, but the Conqs would finish their scoring at that point, falling 20-7 in seven innings.
Six Conqs recorded a hit in the loss, while the team drew nine walks in the contest. Hamilton was 1-2 with two runs scored, four RBI, a grand slam, two walks, and two stolen bases.
Will Soto was 1-2 with a pair of walks, while Cipolla and
Hunter Morgan each had a hit and run scored, and Cipolla added an RBI.
Five different Conqs saw action on the mound in the matchup as Blinn had 17 hits and 11 free passes in the contest.
The Conqs will wrap up their Texas road trip with a four-game series against Coastal Bend on Friday and Saturday, February 6th-7th, in Beeville, Texas, with a doubleheader each.
