Dodge City baseball took the field for the first time at home on the new turf at Cavalier Field in the 2026 season and earned a doubleheader sweep of Dawson, winning 5-4 and 15-5.
The Conquistadors moved to 6-4 on the season with the wins, holding on in game one and winning in five innings in game two.
Conqs will take on Dawson again in a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 17th, starting at 1:00 pm.
Game 1 – Won 5-4 vs Dawson
After working around a two-out walk in the top of the first inning, the Conqs saw
Hunter Morgan start the day with a single, and he would steal second and move to third on a passed ball before scoring on an RBI groundout from
Ben Longoria. Both teams were held scoreless in the second, then Dawson belted a solo home run in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the third,
Ty Hamilton gave the Conqs the lead back as he smacked a three-run home run. The fifth saw Dawson answer back with a two-run homer, and the Conqs responded with an
Angel Vazquez solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to lead 5-3. Looking to cap the game, the Conqs saw Dawson scratch a run across in the top of the seventh, but
Connor Lovin entered and shut the door, recording back-to-back strikeouts to finish the game as the Conqs earned the 5-4 victory.
Cameron Stewart was strong on the mound to earn the win. He tossed five innings, giving up just three runs on four hits, two walks, and two hit batters, while striking out seven.
Sam Spencer tossed 1.1 innings of relief, and Lovin earned the save with the final two outs.
Hamilton, Morgan, and Vazquez paced the offense for the Conqs as it was limited in the win. It was a 2-3 game for Hamilton with a home run, three RBI, a run scored, and a triple. Morgan was 2-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Vazquez was 1-1 with a home run, two runs scored, a hit by pitch, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Game 2 – Won 15-5 vs Dawson (5 innings)
The second game of the day saw an offensive outburst early as the Conqs tallied eight runs on eight hits in the first.
Preston Harrison had a two RBI double to start the scoring, while Vazquez,
Will Soto, and
Cameron Stukenborg each had an RBI double in the first. Soto had another RBI double in the second as the Conqs extended the lead to 9-0. In the third, Dawson got on the board with a two-run home run. The fourth inning would see the Conqs bat around for the second time in the contest, scoring six runs, capitalizing on six walks. In the top of the fifth, Dawson put up a fight to get back into the game with three runs, but the Conqs would finish out the contest to end the matchup in five innings at 15-5.
Michael Bizier earned the win on the mound, tossing four strong innings, giving up just two runs on three hits, no walks, and one hit batter while striking out four. Patrick Faila and
Aydin Ruiz each saw action on the hill for the Conqs.
All nine Conqs in the batting lineup each base safely at least twice in the win. Morgan was 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a walk, while Harrison added a 2-4 game with two doubles, four RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Soto finished 2-2 with a walk, two runs scored, two RBI, and two doubles.
