Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Mike Smith

Women's Soccer Opens Season With Road Win Over Highland

Dodge City women's soccer traveled across the state to northeast Kansas to open the 2025 season as they took on Highland and would open the season with a 1-0 victory.

The Conquistadors opened the contest, taking early possession and firing off a handful of shots in the first half, but were unable to score. The Conqs would also keep Highland off the scoreboard in the first half, as the game remained scoreless at intermission. Ten minutes into the second half, the Conqs would break through as Lucia Bennett snatched the possession back around the top of the box and would rope a kick around a defender off her left foot and bend it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Conqs lead. The Conqs would make the lead hold up, keeping Highland off the scoreboard despite being outshot by Highland 6-3 in the second half and 9-8 in the game.

Bennett netted the lone goal for the Conqs and recorded three of the team's shots in the contest, while Lucy Goss and Kimya Kante-Mavuba split time in goal, each playing 45 minutes. Goss recorded one save in the first half, and Kante-Mavuba tallied four saves in the second half.

Non-conference play continues for the Conqs as they will be at home for the first time this season Saturday, September 6th, when they take on Western Texas College at 2:00 pm.
