Dodge City women's basketball earned a spot in the Region 6 Tournament Semifinals for the third straight year after a 72-40 win over Barton.
The Conquistadors with the win move to 26-4 on the season and will now play #25 Butler in the Region 6 Semifinals in Hays, Kansas at Fort Hays State University on Friday, March 14th at 1:00 pm. Conqs have won seven in a row in the series with Barton.
Barton would tally the first bucket of the game, but the Conqs responded by scoring the next 13 points to lead 13-2 six minutes into the contest and would finish the first quarter up 15-7. A quick 5-0 spurt to open the second quarter expanded the lead and the Conqs would enter halftime up 29-22 over the Cougars of Barton. The lead would work back to double figures for the Conqs at 38-27 on a
Savi Mi three-pointer with four minutes left in the third quarter and the Conqs led 44-32 entering the fourth. The Conqs would dominate the fourth quarter outscoring Barton 28-8 to grab the 72-40 win.
Conqs shot 43.9% and hit 10 three-pointers, holding Barton to just 35.6% shooting and forcing 20 Cougar turnovers.
Mi led the Conqs on the night with 13 points and six rebounds going 5-7 from the field, while
Mia Jordan chipped in 10 points going 6-7 from the free throw line and had two blocks.
Shorna Preston added 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.
Tayah Morgan chipped in nine points and
Layla-J Cameron finished with eight points.
The Conqs will take on #25 Butler in the Region 6 Semifinals on Friday, March 14th at 1:00 pm at Gross Memorial Coliseum at Fort Hays State University.
