Men's Basketball Ends Late Season Run in Region 6 Quarterfinals Against #5 Cowley

Dodge City men's basketball late season run ended on Tuesday in the Region 6 Tournament quarterfinals as they would fall on the road to #5 Cowley 87-74. The Conquistadors would push the KJCCC Champions just coming up short in the second half. 
 
The Conqs with the loss end the season with a 15-17 record and finished ninth in the KJCCC. 
 
The first half would be back-and-forth as the Conqs would joust with Cowley trading buckets and would never trail by more than seven in the half. The Conqs pushed would finish the first half on an 8-0 run including a late steal by Derrick Rivers that led to a transition layup for Koch-Deng Koch in the final seconds of the first half giving the Conqs a 34-33 lead at halftime. In the second half the game remained a two-possession contest until eight minutes remaining with Cowley would take an eight-point lead at 64-56. With four and a half minutes left the lead for the Tigers of Cowley would get to double figures at 74-63 and the Conqs would be unable to overcome the deficit falling 87-74. 
 
Conqs would shoot just 33.3% for the contest, while Cowley countered by shooting 45.3% and 40.7% from three-point range. The Conqs were strong from the free throw line again going 20-25 in the loss and won the rebound battle by two. 
 
Mynor Strong led the Conqs with 26 points as he was 8-9 from the free throw line and had five rebounds. Jayse Boatwright chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds, while Rivers finished with 14 points. 
 
The Conqs wrap up the third season under Head Coach, Brad Witherspoon seeing their late season surge come to a close in the Region 6 Tournament quarterfinals ending the season with a 15-17 record.
