Dodge City men's basketball has played some top-notch competition regularly, and this year the non-conference includes strong competition once again, including a home game against #13 Indian Hills.
While the Conquistadors challenged Indian Hills and made multiple pushes in the contest, it was the Warriors who got the better of the Conqs, 93-73. The loss sends the Conqs to 1-1 on the season.
It was a slow start to the night for the Conqs, and just over three minutes into the contest, they found themselves behind 11-5. The Indian Hills lead would grow to 20-9 nearly halfway through the first half and get to as large as 18. The Conqs countered and, with just under four minutes remaining in the first half, drew back within single digits at 34-26, but Hills capped the first half on a 12-4 run to lead 46-30 at intermission. In the second half, the lead grew to 20 for Hills over the first five minutes of action, going up 55-35. The Conqs had another surge in them, closing the gap to as close as six at 57-51, going on a 16-2 run, but Hills had another counter, extending the lead back out and ultimately grabbing the 93-73 win.
The Conqs shot 37.9% on the night while Hills hit at a 45.2% clip; as Hills had 15 more field goal attempts and 11 more made baskets.
Derrick Rivers led the Conqs with 12 points, all in the second half, while
Christian Brockett posted nine points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Rickey Loftin II added nine points, and
Bubba Strong chipped in eight points.
Non-conference play continues for the Conqs as they look to get back on track when they compete at the Hutchinson CC Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 7th-8th, against Lamar and Southwestern Christian both days at 3:00pm.
