Box Score Dodge City volleyball would push another opponent in a tight battle, but ultimately came out on the wrong side as the Conquistadors suffered a four-set loss to #12 Barton.
The Conqs fell 22-25, 25-18, 11-25, 22-25 on the road against the Cougars, dropping to 10-12 on the season with the loss and 4-6 in KJCCC action.
The night opened with Barton starting the evening on a 3-0 run, which led to an 11-5 advantage in the first set. However, the Conqs settled in and mounted a 5-1 run to draw with three at 13-10, then within one at 15-14, and would tie the set at 17-17. A
Chaehee Baek ace would give the Conqs their first lead of the set at 21-20, but Barton answered back, finishing the first set with a 5-1 run, giving the set to the Cougars, 25-22. Set two saw the Conqs come out hot with an early 5-0 run to lead 5-1 and would use that lead to hold off Barton throughout the set, taking it 25-18 to even the match. The third set saw Barton again start strong and then make an 8-0 run late to cap the third set, winning it 25-11. The fourth set again saw Barton grab the early lead and work to match point, which the Conqs would fend off four straight times, but ultimately not enough, falling 25-22 in the set to cap the match.
In the loss,
Chelsea Durbridge finished with 36 assists, 14 digs, two aces, and two kills.
Kayla Cantrill had another double-digit kill performance with 10 kills and added nine digs.
Sunni Skipps was strong defensively with 18 digs, while
Mali Towers added 13 digs. Baek registered nine kills adding two digs, and an ace.
Six matches remain in the regular season for the Conqs as they will travel to Pratt on Wednesday, October 15th, for a 6:30 pm match.
