Men's Basketball Sees Strong Second Half By Colby Be the Difference in Jayhawk Conference Tilt

Dodge City men's basketball struggled to stay with a hot shooting Colby team as Jayhawk Conference play continued falling 98-69 as the Trojans had a huge second half.

The Conquistadors' loss drops them to 5-10 on the season and just 2-7 in KJCCC action.

After Colby scored the initial bucket of the contest a layup and free throw by Daouda Cisse gave the Conqs a 3-2 lead which would prove to be the only Dodge City lead of the night. Colby followed with a 6-0 run, but the Conqs countered with five straight points to even the game up 8-8 four and half minutes into the contest. However, Colby had another counter punch this time an 11-0 run to lead 19-8 with under 12 minutes left in the first half. The Conqs would continue to battle drawing to within five points several times and in the final minute of the first half got a Mynor Strong jumper to trail just 37-35, and after steal had a chance to take the lead just before halftime but a three-point attempt came up empty and the Conqs trail 37-35 at intermission.

In the second half, Colby continued their hot shooting hitting 70% of their shots and grew their lead as the Conqs struggled to stay with the Trojans. A 61-point outburst in the second half propelled Colby to the 98-69 win over the Conqs.

Conqs shot just 34.3% from the floor on the night while Colby shot 56.9% for the game and had just 11 turnovers.

Keshawn Brown Jr. paced the Conqs finishing with a career-high 20 points on 6-12 shooting including 5-7 three-pointers and was 3-3 from the free-throw line while grabbing five rebounds. Cisse chipped in 13 points on 5-7 shooting, while Jayse Boatwright added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

The Conqs are back on the road on Saturday, January 11th, when they will take on Independence at 4:00 pm.
