The second half of the KJCCC slate of games opened on the road for the Dodge City women's soccer team as they took Barton in Great Bend. While the contest was a tight battle for 60 minutes the final 30 was controlled by Barton leading to a 6-2 loss for the Conquistadors.
The loss moves the Conqs to 3-5-2 on the season and 3-4-2 in KJCCC action.
Just 11 minutes into the contest the Conqs would fall behind as Barton found their first goal of the day and then 10 minutes later the Cougars of Barton would make it 2-0. The Conqs would not be rattled as they countered in the 24th minute as
Mariam El Mir blasted a 30+ yard goal off a pass from
Lucia Culleres-Soto. The Conqs trailed 2-1 at intermission but would tie the match in the 54th minute as El Mir booted a free kick over the Barton goalkeeper drawing the game even at 2-2. However, after that Barton would control the rest of the game and do so in a big way spraying in four goals leading to a 6-2 loss for the Conqs on the road.
Conqs managed just eight shots in the matchup being outshot 21-8 overall including 16-4 in the second half.
Ana Ramirez-Cortes did record seven saves in the loss in goal.
The second showdown against #10 KCK looms next for the Conqs as they will take on the Blue Devils in Wichita at Stryker Sports Complex on Wednesday, October 2nd.
