For the third and fourth time this season, the Dodge City football team has a player that has earned KJCCC "Player of the Week" honors as
Tory Gethers has picked up the awards on defense and
Amarian Louis snags the honors on special teams.
The Conquistadors earned a 9-6 win on the road over #8 Highland and the defense spearheaded the Conqs' success as they would hold Highland to just 202 total yards of offense, 5-16 on third down, and just six points which is the lowest by a KJCCC opponent against the Conqs since 2016. The Conqs scoring for the second straight week opened with a blocked extra point that was returned for two points.
Gethers was at the forefront of the defense leading the Conqs as he recorded 12 tackles along with two tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and two pass breakups. He ranks seventh in the KJCCC in tackles per game at 6.5 and his 26 total tackles on the season rank fifth in the KJCCC.
Louis for the second straight week picked up a blocked extra point by his teammates and returned it for a two-point conversion. This week he would see his teammate
Jowhar Franklin returning it initially and would snag it from Franklin to take it the rest of the way on the return.
The Conqs return home to continue the season for their next contest as they will host Iowa Central on Saturday, September 28th with an 11:00 am kick.
