Dodge City men's basketball squared off with another ranked KJCCC foe on the road on Saturday taking on the Cowley Tigers. The Conquistadors would play well but the Cowley offensive production was too much as the Tigers took the game 85-59.
The loss moves the Conqs to 9-15 on the season and 7-11 in KJCCC action, as six regular season games remain this season.
Looking to keep pace with the Tigers the Conqs would be tied 8-8 just over five minutes into the contest and would keep the contest close for most of the first half. Both teams were efficient offensively and with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half the Conqs trailed just 31-25. With just over two minutes remaining in the half, the Conqs were still within six points, but Cowley would have a late surge in the first half finishing the half on a 7-2 run to give them a 46-35 advantage at halftime. Cowley would continue to shoot well in the second half and the Conqs' strong efforts were just not enough to stay with the Tigers as the lead grew in the second half. The Conqs would see Cowley take the contest 85-59.
The Conqs would shoot 35.1% for the contest while Cowley countered shooting 49.1% from the floor and the Tigers also dominated the boards. Conqs' defense would force 21 Tiger turnovers in the loss.
Chevalier "Ice" Emery posted 14 points to lead the Conqs as he was 4-7 from three-point range, while
Marius Canery chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Jayse Boatwright added nine points with five rebounds.
Up next the Conqs will return home as they will host #20 Butler on Wednesday, February 14th.
