Men's Basketball Snaps Five-Game Losing Streak With Road Win Over Independence

Dodge City men's basketball snapped a five-game skid by going on the road and grabbing a 94-80 win over Independence.

The victory moves the Conquistadors to 8-13 on the season and 6-9 in KJCCC action, while also marking the seventh straight win over the Pirates in the series for the Conqs.

Tight early as the game was tied 7-7 after the first three minutes of action the Conqs would see the Pirates snag the lead until a scoop shot layup by Hunter Duncan gave the Conqs a 16-15 advantage with 12:05 left in the first half. The lead quickly swung back to the Pirates as Indy had some hot shooting at 58.6% in the first half growing their lead to nine and taking a 43-35 lead into halftime. A quick 7-0 spurt to open the second half pulled the Conqs to within one-point at 43-42. The Conqs would linger close until grabbing the lead with 15:05 left in the game on a Jackson Swartz hook shot going up 52-51. The lead would remain with the Conqs the rest of the way making its way to as high as 15 points as the Conqs went on to grab the 94-80 win.

In the victory, the Conqs shot 50.8% from the field and went 27-33 from the free throw line, while Independence shot 45.5% from the field but only was 14-31 from the free throw line.

Chevalier "Ice" Emery paced the Conqs with 21 points on 6-12 shooting and went 6-6 from the free throw line. Jamari Gamble added a 20-point performance going 11-11 from the free throw line, while Swartz chipped in 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Duncan filled the stat sheet line nicely with 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Off the bench in strong 20+ minutes, Jayse Boatwright tallied 14 points on 5-9 shooting adding five rebounds.
