Women's Soccer Pushes Hutchinson in First Round of Playoffs in Double Overtime Loss

Dodge City women's soccer team has battled the top teams in the Jayhawk Conference all season and the first round of the playoffs was no different as the Conquistadors took on #14 Hutchinson on the road and would push the Blue Dragons to a double overtime decision.

The Conqs and Blue Dragons were scoreless after the first 90 minutes and then 10 minutes forcing a second overtime where Hutchinson netted the game-winning goal in the 101st minute. The loss caps the Conqs season closing it out in the first round of the playoffs as they end the year 4-10-4.

In the first half, the Conqs would generate the most opportunities of the two teams firing off six shots to the Blue Dragons one shot, but neither team could get on the board. In the second half, both teams would generate six shots but again the defenses on each side would turn away the opportunities, and the full 90 minutes ticked off the clock without a goal. Into overtime, the matchup went with a golden goal situation giving the first team to score the win if a score in the overtime period. The 10-minute overtime period would be much more of the same as the 90 minutes of regulation and lead to a second overtime. Less than two minutes into the second overtime Hutchinson pushed towards the goal and opened an opportunity that they finished to snag the 1-0 win in the 101st minute of the contest.

The Conqs in the loss would outshoot Hutchinson 13-10 but were outshot 3-1 in the overtime periods.

The Conqs' season closes out with a tough first-round playoff loss, as they end the 2024 season with a 4-10-4 record.
