Women's Basketball Uses Strong Rebounding and Shooting Night to Top Cowley

Dodge City women's basketball used another strong shooting performance and dominated the glass to cruise past Cowley on the road 72-54 in KJCCC action.

The victory moves the Conquistadors to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in KJCCC play, giving the Conqs a six-game win streak. The Conqs have won six of the last seven meetings with the Tigers.

It was a slow start to the night for both teams, but the Conqs were on the board going up 5-0 before Cowley got their first point nearly five minutes into the contest. The Conqs worked to an 8-1 advantage and doubled up Cowley 12-6 after the first ten minutes of action. A 9-0 run that featured a pair of buckets by Savi Mi ballooned the Conqs lead to a 21-6 lead two and a half minutes into the second quarter. The lead grew to 32-9 for the Conqs and with a 20-10 second quarter the Conqs carried a 32-16 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Conqs would push the lead out a little further and continue to stymie the Tigers offensively on the way to the 72-54 victory.

Defensively the Conqs held the Tigers to just 23.7% shooting holding an opponent under 30% shooting for the fourth time this season and have held every opponent in their wins to under 60 points this season. The Conqs dominated the boards out rebounding Cowley 59-23 and would shoot 46.8% themselves in the contest while dishing out 25 assists on 29 made field goals.

Five players tallied double figures on the night for the Conqs with 14 points from Becca Unruh and Tayah Morgan each leading the way. Unruh also grabbed five rebounds, while Morgan added a career-best nine rebounds and a career-high six assists. Layla-J Cameron chipped in 12 points with a career-high nine rebounds and three assists. Shorna Preston recorded her eighth double-double of the season finishing with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds along with five blocks and four assists. Mia Jordan contributed 11 points on 5-6 shooting while grabbing eight rebounds.

Up next the Conqs are back home on Saturday, November 30th at 1:00 pm as they will host #23 Butler for a big KJCCC clash.
