Dodge City men's basketball team played their fifth ranked or receiving votes opponent of the season as they continued KJCCC play on Tuesday night taking on #19 Cowley. The hot shooting from the Tigers of Cowley doomed the Conquistadors on the night as they fell 100-64.
The loss sends the Conqs to 1-2 in conference play and 4-5 on the season overall.
Tight early on the Conqs would be right with Cowley until about the 13-minute mark of the first half when the Tigers pounced. Over the next five and a half minutes Cowley would outscore the Conqs 21-4 to lead 34-14 with 7:30 left in the first half. The deficit continued to grow as the Conqs struggled to stay with Cowley and would trail 54-29 at halftime. The Conqs would come out of halftime and mount a 10-4 run to try and push back into the contest but the deficit proved to be too much. Cowley settled back in and would continue to have a hot shooting night to hand the Conqs a 100-64 loss on the road.
Conqs saw Cowley shoot 56.9% from the field and 10-16 from three-point range while the Conqs would only shoot 33.9% from the field and were just 19-34 from the charity stripe.
In the loss,
Mynor Strong tallied 16 points on 7-15 shooting with four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Kyle Burns chipped in 14 points with four steals and four rebounds, while
Keshawn Brown Jr. off the bench added 13 points going 7-10 from the free-throw line.
The tough slate continues for the Conqs on Saturday, November 30th when they continue the season as they will host #11 Butler at 3:00 pm in Dodge City.
