Men's Basketball Jumps On Rival Garden City Early in KJCCC Opening Road Win

Dodge City men's basketball came out firing to open Jayhawk Conference play and won convincingly against rival Garden City on the road 92-76. 

The win moves the Conquistadors to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in KJCCC action. The Conqs have won seven of the last nine meetings in series against Garden City and the Conqs are 2-1 in KJCCC openers under Head Coach, Brad Witherspoon.

The Conqs took control early opening the game on a 10-3 run over the first three and half minutes and would push the lead to double figures at 16-6 on a Kejuan Payne layup with 11:37 left in the first half. The lead would remain in double digits throughout the rest of the first half and ballooned to 19 points on the way to a 40-24 lead at intermission. In the second half, the lead would surpass 20 points for the Conqs but Garden City would have a late surge in the contest, but the Conqs lead would be pushed back out as the Broncbusters got no closer than 73-61. The Conqs put the finishing touches on the contest to secure the 92-76 win. 

Conqs shot 45.8% from the field and would out-rebound Garden City 44-34 in the contest, while Garden City shot just 36.5% from the field.

Six Conqs scored double figures on the night led by Kyle Burns who dropped 18 points including going 6-6 from the free throw line. Wesly Rosa had his first career double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds, while Mynor Strong chipped in 14 points with five rebounds. Derrick Rivers added 12 points on 3-6 shooting and 4-5 free throws with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Payne and Jamari Gamble each finished with 10 points in the contest. 

The Conqs are back in action at home on Saturday, November 23rd against Cloud County at 3:00 pm as they return home for the first time since the season opener.
