Women's Basketball Overcomes Sluggish Start to Rout Laramie County

Box Score Dodge City women's basketball capped non-conference play with an 82-56 win over Laramie County a team led by former Conquistador assistant coach, Danielle Rinaldo. 

The win moves the Conqs to 5-1 on the season as KJCCC opens next week. The victory also marks the 80th under Head Coach, Landon Steele during his time leading the Conqs. 

It was a sluggish start to the contest as the Conqs would fall behind 8-0 to start the matchup against Laramie County not getting on the scoreboard until just under six minutes left in the first quarter. The Conqs' struggles continued through the first stanza trailing 19-6 but the Conqs would finally settle in late in the second quarter outscoring Laramie County 21-11 in the frame but would trail 30-27 at halftime. Out of halftime the Conqs raced out to a 7-1 start and grabbed the lead at 34-32 giving them their first lead. Conqs would outscore Laramie County by 10 again in the third to separate themselves and lead 51-44 after three quarters. The offense clicked in fully in the fourth quarter as the Conqs had an outpouring of 31 points ultimately taking the contest in big fashion 82-56. 

Conqs would shoot just 30.3% in the first half but answer back in the second half and shoot 62.9% in the half to shoot 47.1% for the contest. Defensively the Conqs held Laramie County to just 29.9% shooting and forced 19 turnovers, while only turning it over 11 times. 

Layla-J Cameron dropped 20 points her third 20+ point performance of the season adding four rebounds and four assists. Shorna Preston recorded her fifth double-double of the season and it was nearly a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Mia Jordan chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds, while Tayah Morgan finished with 15 points. Konstantina Mantziori added 10 points and eight assists. 

The Conqs now turn their attention to KJCCC action as they will travel to take on rival Garden City on Wednesday, November 20th at 5:30 pm.
