For the seventh straight dating back to the bowl game last season the Dodge City football team faced an opponent that was ranked or receiving votes in the national NJCAA poll, with this time drawing a showdown with #1 Hutchinson.
The Conquistadors would struggle to stick with the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson who jump out to the early advantage to hand the Conqs the loss. With the loss the Conqs are now 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in KJCCC.
After a three-and-out to open the contest, Hutchinson took advantage of starting in Conq territory getting on the board in just four plays with a touchdown. The Blue Dragons would add two more touchdowns in the first quarter to lead 21-0. The second stanza would see Hutchinson add 21 more points capitalizing on a pair of Conq fumbles leading to multiple scores. Trailing 42-0 at halftime the Conqs would be unable to find anything in the second half as Hutchinson would cruise to the victory.
Conqs struggled on the day mustering only 35 yards of offense while Hutchinson countered with 399 total yards and recovered four Conq fumbles in the matchup.
Sam Brooks did have another double-figure tackle contest with 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, while
Kaleb Gray had seven tackles with a forced fumble.
Spencer Vaka and
Daeton Maze both recorded a sack in the contest and two tackles for loss each.
The season continues for the Conqs on Saturday, October 12th at home against Ellsworth with an 11:00 am kickoff with homecoming festivities set for Saturday, also.
