Dodge City men's basketball wrapped up the regular season at home falling in a tough Top 20 KJCCC battle with Barton suffering an 84-67 loss.
The loss moves the Conquistadors to 22-8 on the season and 18-6 in KJCCC action. The Conqs captured the outright KJCCC title for the second straight after Northwest Kansas Tech beat Coffeyville on the night 81-77.
It was a tight battle back and forth early as the Conqs were gridlocked at 10-10 through the first five minutes of the contest. Over the next 10 minutes, Barton would outscore the Conqs 17-5 to take control of the game leading 35-19. The lead would continue to grow for Barton over the remainder of the first half as the Conqs struggled to find offense and trailed 42-26 at halftime. The Conqs shot just 30.8% from the field in the first half and were 0-16 from three-point range, while Barton shot 51.6% from the field. The lead ballooned to 20 in the second half for Barton but the Conqs would push back to dwindle the deficit down, but the Cougars answered back multiple times leading to the 84-67 final.
Conqs shot just 37.1% from the field and struggled from three-point range, while Barton finished 50% from the field and went 17-20 from the free-throw line.
DJ Jones paced the Conqs in the loss with 15 points while adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Shawn Warrior chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, while
Chris Robinson added 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists.
Up next the Conqs head into the postseason for the Region VI Tournament as the Conqs will be the #1 seed for the second straight year earning a first-round bye and then will play in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 7th at 7:30 pm at home against the winner of the Cloud County and Cowley first-round game.
