Women's Basketball Claims Outright KJCCC Title With Win Over Colby

Dodge City women's basketball team hit the road for KJCCC action and stretched their win streak to 19-straight behind a 81-56 win over Colby which secured the Conquistadors the out-right KJCCC Championship.

The win moves the Conqs to 26-2 on the season and 21-1 in KJCCC action, giving the Conqs the out-right KJCCC title and #1 seed for the Region VI tournament.

Conqs wasted no time taking control of the contest racing out to a 7-0 lead over the first minute and a half leading to a Colby timeout. The lead continued to grow as the Conqs opened the game 12-0 before Colby scored and would lead 17-1 in the first quarter as Colby would not get their first field goal until 2:36 left in the quarter. Colby however finished the first quarter on a 5-0 run to make it 18-10 after the first 10 minutes. Colby managed to trim the Conqs lead to just five early in the second quarter but an 8-0 Conqs run ballooned the lead back out as the Conqs went up 28-15 and ultimately matched their largest lead of the contest going into halftime up 39-23. To open the second half the Conqs saw Colby put together an 11-4 run to cut the lead to just nine points at 43-34 but the Conqs would answer. Conqs strung a 14-0 run together highlighted by four-straight three-pointers and the Conqs led 65-42 after three quarters. Conqs finish out the game and secure the 81-56 road win over the Trojans of Colby.

The Conqs would shoot just 37.9% from the field while holding Colby to 35.5% shooting but forced 21 Trojan turnovers and control the boards, outrebounding Colby 50-35.

A trio of double-figure scorers led the Conqs on the night while 11 different Conqs scored on the night. Bree Stephens tallied 14 points on 7-14 shooting, while Jenna Rose Mafua chipped in 12 points and Kianna Lemons added 10 points.
