Women's Basketball Picks Up Fifth Straight Win Beating Cowley

Dodge City women's basketball team picked up their fifth straight win as they downed the Cowley Tigers at home 69-51.

The win improves the Conquistadors to 11-1 on the season and 5-1 in KJCCC action, while making it five in a row against the Tigers in the series.

Cowley would tally the first field goal of the contest, but the Conqs responded by scoring the next 10 points to lead 10-2 and look to be in control. However, the Conqs would go cold, and Cowley would find a way to hit some shots to close the game making it 10-8 at the end of the third quarter. Cowley would tie the contest at 10-10 early in the second quarter but despite the offensive struggles in the first half, the Conqs would own the lead at halftime leading 26-20 as Hannah Briskey drained a shot and then Layla-J Cameron drained a three-pointer before halftime to make it a six-point Conq lead.

The shots started to fall in in the second half for the Conqs as they started the third quarter on a 14-4 run and would ultimately outscore the Tigers 28-14 in the quarter to take control of the matchup. The lead established in the third quarter would be enough for the Conqs to cruise to the win 69-51 over the Tigers.

Conqs would finish the game shooting 42.2% while holding Cowley to 33.9% from the floor. Offensively the Conqs distributed the ball well with 20 assists on 27 made field goals and drained 12 three-pointers, while also limiting turnovers to just 10.

Cameron paced the Conqs with 21 points on 8-15 shooting including 4-8 from three-point range while snatching eight rebounds. Paris Santacaterina chipped in 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Parris Atkins added 11 points, five assists, and four steals.

Up next the Conqs will wrap up the first part of the season before the holiday break with a big road tilt against #3 Butler in El Dorado on Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 pm.
