Dodge City Community College football team put together a season that etches them into the history books as the Conquistadors capped the 2023 season with the program first ever bowl game victory winning the Xcel Energy Wool Bowl in Roswell, New Mexico to cap the season at 8-3.
The Conqs finished the season with a 37-6 win over New Mexico Military Institute and finished the 2023 season ranked #6 in the final NJCAA Division I rankings marking the highest ranking the Conqs have achieved all season.
The season featured several accomplishments for the Conqs as the team finished with the most wins since 2015 and tied for the second most wins in a single season in school history while wrapping up the season on a five-game win streak the longest win streak since 2016 for the program. The Conqs would finish second in the KJCCC marking the best finish in the conference since 2016 after being preseason picked sixth in the KJCCC. The Conqs snapped several losing streaks to Coffeyville, Butler, and Garden City, along with picking up their first win over a Top 10 ranked team since 2015 with a win over Iowa Central.
Defensively the Conqs held teams to 18.3 points per game on the season finishing ranked seventh in scoring defense in the NJCAA holding teams to just 279.6 total yards per game. On the year the Conqs kept seven of their 11 opponents to 17 points or less and held eight of 11 opponents to 270 or less total yards. Offensively the Conqs averaged 24.8 points per game on 300.5 total yards per game with contributions from across the board on the offense.
The Conqs have etched their place in the history of Dodge City CC athletics and now the football program looks to continue to build the program and look towards the spring practice and the 2024 season next fall.
