Men's Basketball Falters On the Road Against Pratt

Dodge City men's basketball struggles to get going on the road as their comeback attempt fell short against Pratt in KJCCC action as the Conquistadors fell 79-67.

The Conqs with the loss fall to 4-6 on the season and 2-2 in KJCCC action with three more games before the holiday break.

It was early shooting woes for the Conqs on the road and while Pratt struggled early offensively it was the Beavers establishing the early lead. Pratt led 12-5 nearly eight minutes into the contest and the Conqs would fall behind 16-5 before finally getting some shots to fall. The early hole for the Conqs would be enough for Pratt to fend off the Conqs advances and by halftime, the Beavers held the 41-29 advantage in the contest. The second half would see the lead stay at double figure for a good portion of the half until the Conqs got to within single digits with just under six minutes left in the contest. Conqs would continue to chip away at the lead dwindling it down to four at 71-67 but Pratt would make free throws down the stretch and grab the win 79-67.

In the loss the Conqs shot just 38.5% while Pratt shot 43.5% for the contest; both teams made several trips to the free throw line as Pratt was 22-28 from the line but the Conqs were just 13-24. The Conqs were also outrebounded 45-29 in the loss.

Fourteen points by Chevalier "Ice" Emery paced the Conqs while three other Conqs were in double figures. Gavin Shannon chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jamari Gamble added 10 points. Jayse Boatwright had his best game as a Conq recording 10 points on 4-5 shooting and adding four rebounds. Both Avnoor Bhullar and Hunter Duncan each tallied nine points.

Up next the Conqs are back home as they host #25 Cloud County on Saturday, December 2nd at 3:00 pm.
