Dodge City women's basketball put a bow on the non-conference slate of the schedule beating Arizona Western to wrap up the Midland Classic down in Texas picking up a 75-54 win.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 6-0 on the season marking the best start to a season since the 2015-16 season as the Conqs now turn their focus to KJCCC action.
The Conqs would jump out front early and lead 10-7 three minutes into the contest when the Conqs would mount a 10-2 run to lead 20-9 with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. By the end of the first stanza, the Conqs led 27-20 and would go on to hold a 43-40 lead at halftime as Arizona Western would outscore the Conqs 20-16 in the second quarter. The third quarter was all Conqs blasting Arizona Western 21-2 going on a 16-0 run to open the second half as it took nearly six minutes into the second half for Arizona Western to score their first points of the half. The big third quarter propelled the Conqs to the 75-54 win to warp up non-conference play.
Conqs again shot over 40% shooting 42.2% from the floor while draining 14-pointers and went 7-7 from the free throw line.
Layla-J Cameron led the Conqs with 19 points on 6-7 shooting with seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Parris Atkins added 15 points on 7-10 shooting along with four assists, two rebounds, and three steals. Both Shorna Preston and Monique Rudder both added nine points each in the win.
The Conqs are now set to continue the season by transitioning into KJCCC action as they open conference play on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 pm against Hutchinson at home.
