Dodge City volleyball team have been road warriors in the 2022 season and the mileage continued to add up on Wednesday as the Conquistadors traveled to Concordia, Kansas to take on Cloud County in KJCCC action.
The Conqs broke out the brooms for their first Jayhawk conference win of the season beating Cloud County 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. The win moves the Conqs to 9-3 on the season and 1-2 in KJCCC action; the win also is the fifth straight over the Thunderbirds for the Conqs and gives the team a current win streak of four on the season.
After a 3-1 start to open the match Cloud County countered and took the lead until Nur Yaren Turkmenolgu recorded an ace and
J'Carra Mitchell notched a kill to tie the first set at 10-10. Tied up late in the first set at 18-18 the Conqs would string four-straight points together and ultimately cap the first set on a
Miya Alvarado ace to take it 25-20. Cloud took the early 4-1 lead in the second set, but the Conqs countered and would go up 17-10 and take the second set 25-18 as
Ozge Tan finished the set on an ace. A 4-0 start turned into a 8-1 lead for the Conqs as they cruised past Cloud County in the third set winning it 25-17 to take the match.
Tan led the Conqs with 14 kills, while adding eight digs in the win.
Martyna Kmuk on her birthday tallied a nine kill and nine dig evening, while
Oliwia Durka finished with seven kills, three digs, and three aces.
J'Carra Mitchell had a strong performance hitting .500 with four kills, four digs, and two block assists. Turkmenolgu recorded 34 assists with three kills and an ace.
Conqs continue to live on the road as their season continues over the weekend when they will compete in the Wyobraska Tournament which will be hosted in both Torrington, Wyoming and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The Conqs will compete in two matches each day on Friday, September 16th and Saturday, September 17th at the tournament.
