Dodge City men's soccer squared off with their second straight Top 20 opponent as they continued Jayhawk Conference play on Saturday taking on #17 Coffeyville.
The #19 Conquistadors would fall in the contest as the Red Ravens won 5-1 moving the Conqs to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in KJCCC action.
The first was a scoreless battle for most of it until the 37th minute of the contest when Coffeyville found the back of the net to take a 1-0 advantage and carried that into halftime. In the second half, the Conqs would be out outshot 14-8 and Coffeyville would spray in four more goals. The Red Ravens tallied a pair of goals to make it 3-0 before the Conqs finally got to the board as
Marlon Lopez would be set up for a penalty kick. Lopez saw his penalty kick saved but, on the rebound, poked the ball across the line to make it 3-1 with just about 20 minutes left in the match. Red Ravens tallied two more goals and claimed the win 5-1.
In the loss, the Conqs were outshot 19-11 and had seven corner kick opportunities. Both Lopez and
Andres Rocha each had three-shot opportunities.
Eric Zalaya recorded nine saves in the loss.
The Conqs are back in action at home against McPherson JV on Wednesday, September 14th at 3:00 pm.
