Volleyball Drops Conference Showdown at Garden City

Dodge City volleyball team was on the road yet again early in the season as they had their first road tilt in conference play facing off with Garden City and while the Conquistadors put forth a solid effort ultimately the Conqs dropped the match in four sets.

Conqs would fall 3-1 (26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22) to Garden City which moves the Conqs to 6-3 on the season and still in search of their first conference win of the season as they are 0-2 in KJCCC action.

The first set saw Garden City take the early advantage, but the Conqs would push back after trailing by as many as six points and keep the set close even knotting it up at 21-21 late in the set after a J'Carra Mitchell kill. The set would need extra points to decide the winner and Garden City snagged it late 26-24. Set two saw the Conqs double up Garden City early at 10-5 but the gap was closed by Garden, and it would remain tight the rest of the way with the Broncbuster stringing a run together late to take the set 25-21. Third set was a dominate one for the Conqs as they controlled it working to a 15-6 lead that would balloon to a 20-8 advantage ultimately leading to a 25-22 third set win for the Conqs. In the fourth set it was back-and-forth just like most of the night with Garden again getting a late run to secure the set at 25-22 and take the match.

Another double-double by Ozge Tan highlighted the night for the Conqs as she recorded 15 kills and 12 digs, while Oliwia Durka added a 15-kill night with nine digs. Nur Yaren Turkmenoglu tallied 46 assists, along with seven digs and three kills. Martyna Kmuk posted a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs.

Conqs are back in action next Tuesday, September 6th when they take on Neosho County on the road at 6:00 pm and then will be back at home on Friday, September 9th for a non-conference triangular as they host Frank Phillips and North Platte starting at 3:00 pm.
